Every year Earthstar Farms welcomes people that want to learn about herbs and get their hands dirty as volunteers and interns. We also host a number of workshops including herb walks, essential oil distilling, and making herbal products. If these activities interest you please consider the following opportunities:

Interns

For this 2018 season Earthstar Farms is looking for interns that want to work with medicinal herbs. This is a great learning experience for those that enjoy gardening, working with their hands and being outside. Interns will experience many aspects of the work involved with running an organic herb farm, including wild-crafting, plant care, harvesting, drying, and processing herbs. Interns will also get to make products such as smudge sticks and sweet grass braids. Our season starts in May and goes through into October. We require interns to commit to one or two mornings a week, and accept both short-term (2 to 4 weeks) and long-term (2 to 4 months) internships. Please contact Ben Levi if you are interested in getting involved as an Earthstar Farms intern.

Volunteers

For those who would like to get involved without the commitment of an internship, Earthstar Farms welcomes volunteers during the height of our summer harvest season, which runs June through August. This involves harvesting herbs with one of our herb growers on weekday mornings (generally 9 am - 12 pm). This is an easy, fun way to experience the joy of wild-crafting herbs out in mountain meadows. Please contact Ben Levi if you are interested in volunteering.

Workshops and Other Events

Earthstar Farms workshop season will resume in the spring of 2019. Dates and times will be posted as the events are finalized. Below is a general description of our workshops.

Essential Lavender Oil Distilling

Join Aria and Ben for a morning of lavender oil distilling at Wildcat Gardens. Experience  our copper alembic distiller processing oil and hydrosol, plus take home samples of both our lavender essential oil (2 ml) and lavender hydrosol (4 oz). There is a limit of ten people per workshop; and reservations and payment are required in advance. Please contact Ben Levi to express your interest.

Sweet Grass Braid Workshop

Join Aria for a morning of harvesting and braiding sweet grass (Hierochloe odorata). Participants will learn how to harvest, braid and dry their own sweet grass braids that they can take home.

Smudge Stick Workshop

Join Aria for an afternoon of making your own beautiful floral smudge sticks. The smudge sticks are made with wild-crafted Colorado sage (Artemisia frigida), and Earthstar Farms harvested flowers such as lavender, hyssop and St John’s wort. Each participant will take home two (or more) smudge sticks.
